Subject: Re: H2G2 dramatization on cassette ( 3 of 16 )
Posted by Mike S.

Thanks for the clarification and background story. The tape I have lists a running time of 90 minutes, but it's been a little while since I last listened to it; I don't remember exactly where the story leaves off, but it's probably at the end of the first book. The jacket inset proclaims "Keep Your Eyes peeled for THE RESTAURANT AT THE END OF THE UNIVERSE - appearing soon in audio!" etc., but I don't have the second tape, assuming that it was ever released by Simon & Schuster.

Interestingly enough, now that I think about it, I now remember borrowing a pair of LP's from a friend about 15 years ago, when I lived in a different town, and I distinctly remember one of the album covers had a picture of a rubber duckie in a bathtub full of sudsy water. (I do recognize that scene, by the way) Once upon a time I had a bootleg cassette recording of said LP's (gasp! horrors!) but I've since mended my ways, and besides that, I lost the tape.

Anyway, I've rambled a bit here: my point for replying was to comment on the differences in length of these recordings. Unless the 6-CD/cassette BBC recording was longer because it included the full intro/credit sequences, thus padding things a bit, or they decided to use shorter tapes.

Related to this whole subject, I have a comment/question: I would be interested in creating a transcript of the cassette recording I have, so that I can compare/contrast the story as presented there with the other published versions, specifically in light of the script improvements you mention. But I'm uncertain what I would be able to do with that transcript, regarding the rest of the fan community. I'm guessing that posting such a transcript on the WWW would be a definite no-no from your (and your lawyers') perspective.

Thanks so very much for your participation on this thread.
