Frankly, I thought the Newman/Gabriel effort was not much better than the other anodyne nominations, although Gabriel's performance was infinitely better than those of the other 'singers'. What was it with Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey - was it 'Duelling Warblers' or something? Don't they realise that songwriters put those black blobs on the page because those are the notes you're supposed to sing, not glissando around everything but.

I would have voted for Aerosmith - not because their song was better but because they looked like they were about to die of old age, and you usually get oscars for that.
